Easy: listen to podcasts.
To get the best effect, choose a combination of topics including English learning materials and any other you are interested in (e.g., business, career, entertainment, sports, cooking, technologies, etc.).
Start from simpler materials for beginners. It’s worthy to look at ESL (English as a Second Language) or EFL (English as a Foreign Language) podcasts.
Here is a short list of great English podcasts, from beginner to more advanced levels:
- English as a Second Language Podcast. Very easy to understand. Scripts created and read out by professional English teachers. They first read at a slow rate, then explain all phrases spelling out new words and then repeat the full script at a normal rate or speech.
- Better at English, Real English conversations. More advanced level. Unscripted live chats between an American girl and an English guy. Real conversational English language from educated people with a nice addition of slang. Interesting topics related to real life. Full of humor and just fun to listen to.
- Business English Pod. Will help you sound and look much better for your English colleagues, partners, bosses and just anyone you have to communicate with. A great source of polite phrases and manners. Helps improve negotiating skills. Must listen if you want to avoid being reputed as rude.
- Effortless English. Author of this podcast, A.J. Hoge, will quickly and energetically convince you of the magic power of listening. In his podcast series, you can find both simpler and advanced episodes. And you surely will learn quite a few of common conversational words and phrases. Most important, you will develop a strong attitude to learning and self-improving. In an easy and effortless way.
- Grammar Girl. Must listen to improve your writing skills (no pun intended). Very educational, interesting and useful tips. Advices which can be applied immediately in your daily life whenever you have to write or speak. Serious and positive effect on your literacy and grammatical correctness. And also in an easy way.
The more you listen — the more you improve your skills. In addition, it’s a good way to extend your erudition listening about various subjects during your otherwise dead time. Traffic jams and waiting become desired. You get less stressed and feel proud of yourself making progress. By the way, all the podcasts listed above are free.
Enjoy yourself!
